Cities across the US that have torn down controversial Confederate monuments

Widespread Black Lives Matter protests after the death of George Floyd in police custody have led cities around the US to take down statues dedicated to the Confederacy. After a number of anti-racism demonstrators tore down and defaced statues on their own, some mayors across the country have decided to have monuments officially removed. The debate to tear down Confederate statues was last brought to light in 2018, after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned violent and reinvigorated a national conversation about the role of Confederate statues, memorials, and plaques in public spaces.
