The sprint for a coronavirus vaccine is underway with more than 100 distinct research efforts.  There are three programs that have distanced themselves from the rest by aiming to have a vaccine ready this fall for emergency use. The hard part isn’t jumping in the race — it’s finishing. That requires a plan to quickly test a potential vaccine in people, while simultaneously ramping up manufacturing to produce at least hundreds of millions of doses. Vaccine candidates being developed by Moderna, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca are all now being tested in people and could be available for emergency use
