Treasury says 4 million Americans should expect prepaid debit cards with stimulus payments. Here’s who gets them and when, and how they work.

The Treasury Department said it would send debit cards loaded with stimulus payments to millions of Americans this week. The cards, issued by MetaBank, will be sent to people who did not provide the IRS with banking information and whose tax return was processed by the IRS centers in Austin, Texas, or Andover Massachusetts. If you’re waiting on your stimulus payment, you cannot request to receive a debit card instead of a check.
